The Institute is located in very pleasant surroundings in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, a city of 280,000 and the island\'s administrative and business centre. It is about 30 miles from Larnaca, one of the island\'s international airports and a major beach resort. Cyprus\' location in the east Mediterranean at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and Asia, and its easy accessibility by sea and air (1,500 scheduled flights per month) give it a strategic advantage as a regional centre for business, shipping and finance.
The island\'s time zone is exactly seven hours behind Tokyo and seven hours ahead of New York. An executive stationed in Cyprus can therefore work with the Far East and North America on the same day, during normal working hours. About 1,000 offshore enterprises and banks have their regional headquarters on the island, including such multinationals as Johnson and Johnson, Pepsico, NCR, Bull, Hoffman La Roche, Tetra Pak, Reuters and Associated Press
