IMD is a management institute, not a traditional university, so the IMD MBA is inspired by management practice, not only academic theory. All faculty members teach in our executive development programs, which are widely recognized as the best in the world, and they work on performance-based contracts, not tenure. Being close to business, our clients include dozens of leading international companies, forces IMD to be innovative in it's thinking. IMD develops cutting-edge research and programs that meet real-world needs - being practical and relevant is key. What our faculty learn by working with leading corporations, they incorporate into the MBA program. With no single nationality dominating, IMD is truly global in terms of its mix; participants, faculty and pedagogical material.

IMD is one of the world’s leading business schools with over 50 years’ experience in developing the leadership capabilities of international business executives at every stage of their careers. The majority of our program participants come from medium to large corporations and all have an international orientation to their businesses. Many companies, who begin by sending their managers to IMD programs, go on to develop their relationship with the institute to a closer level and become part of the IMD Learning Network, which provides still further learning advantages.

Knowledge, vision and courage. Openness and willingness to learn. Empathy with, and understanding of others. How to motivate and orchestrate. This is the essence of leadership in the 21st century. The IMD MBA redefines global leadership development. It goes well beyond academic excellence. Building on a highly intensive core, the IMD MBA is designed to help candidates to realize their leadership potential through unique off-site leadership experiences, venture projects, building networks and intensive personal coaching.
