The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has an excellent reputation across the world for teaching & research, receiving top grading in recent teaching quality assessments for the areas of curriculum design, content and organisation. The department receives over 6.5 million research income and has research links with over 100 companies. Students are able to use modern, purpose-built laboratories, a fully networked computing system and a wide range of support services to make the most of their study. There is a large and active postgraduate community, and the department offers a good scholarship scheme for underdraduate and postgraduate students.


ABOUT US

Mission:
Our degree programmes aim to educate engineers to a standard which will enable them to provide a substantial and lasting contribution to the profession of electrical and electronic engineering. A further aim is to produce graduates with the ability to continue with their own personal development beyond graduation. It is an objective of the degree programmes to provide students with the necessary technical competence, tools and personal skills that will enable them to continue to develop their understanding, expertise and professionalism as they progress through their career.

COURSE PROFILE

The MSc in Microelectronics is an advanced course which provides specialist knowledge on all aspects of the design and fabrication of microelectronic devices and systems.

This advanced level knowledge will provide the much-needed bridge between a general first degree in electronics and employment in the semiconductor and associated industries, or an advanced level research degree

Students take 4 compulsory modules (60 credits) select optional modules to a total value of 30 credits, complete an extended course work, and an individual project with dissertation (80 credits)

The award-winning Robinson Library holds over one million books, 5,500 periodicals and over 200 networked computer workstations. There is seating for over 2,000 people.

The University of Newcastle is a campus university located at the heart of the regional capital for the Northeast of England. This vibrant city has shops, restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, art galleries and museums - something for everyone. The surrounding region contains many sites of historic interest, such as Hadrian's Wall, and is close to the world-famous Lake District.

Additional information:
There are many facilities on campus for students. The Union Society supports over 100 societies including many international students' societies. The Student Advice Centre and Chaplaincy offers support to all students. There is also a dentist and a doctor on campus.

International exposure:
Over 14% of students at the University of Newcastle come from outside the UK, representing over 100 countries.

Housing :
Accommodation is available for over 3,500 students on campus. Postgraduate housing is also available. There is a range of accommodation, from single study bedrooms in catered halls of residence to self-catering flats. Computing facilities and recreational facilities are available in some halls of residence. Private rented accommodation is plentiful and cheap in this student-friendly city.
