Degrees/Diplomas
The long university courses and the Fachhochschule lead to the
"Magister/Magistra" diploma or the "Diplomingenieur/in"
- medical studies lead to the "doctorate":
Length of studies: 8 to 12 semesters in the universities and
8 to 16 semesters in the higher arts schools.
The successful Magister courses are divided into 2 cycles, the
first cycle is intended for the acquisition of basic knowledge
and the second cycle is for the specialisation. During the second
cycle the students must write a thesis on a specific subject relating
to their degree.
Following the first level of diplomas the students have the possibility
of continuing their "post university" studies to attain
a doctorat (4 semesters) or a Master (MAS or MBA).
However, the number of disciplines at this level is limited to
the following areas: European law, telecommunications, journalism,
publishing, economic management and financial sciences.
University calendar: 2 semesters : winter semester from
October 1st to the end of January and the summer semester from
the beginning of March to the end of June.
Orientation day for foreign students is normally at the end of
September.
