 AUSTRIA

Visa information

Students that are citizens of the European Union, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland do not need a visa to enter Austria. The only document that is required for entrance and residency in Austria is a passport.

Students from all other countries who are staying in Austria for more than 6 months need to get a residency permit (Klebevignette) which can be applied for at the Austrian embassy in your country.

Contact the Austrian institution as soon as possible so they can send you the application form for a residency permit "Antrg auf Erteilung eines Aufenthaltstitels".

In addition to the above mentioned form and the acceptance letter from the Austrian university, the following documents must be sent to your Austrian university who will then forward all the documents to the Austrian authorities:

- copy of you passport,

- Official certificate stating that you do not have a police record in your country,

- a document proving you are registered with a health insurance plan,

- a document proving that you will benefit from financial support of at least 7,000 ATS (US $ 420) per month during your stay in Austria.

The Austrian authorities will then send the "Klebevignette" to the Austrian embassy nearest you, where you can pick it up when you present your passport and pay a fee of 800 ATS (US $48).

Students from outside the EU who are staying in Austria for less than 6 months need to get a student visa for entrance and residency in Austria which can be obtained from any Austrian consulate.

For the students participating in an exchange program : contact your university who will send you a document confirming your participation in the Erasmus program which you will need to present with your passport, to get your visa.

Finally, during the 3 days following your arrival into Austria, all persons intending to reside in Austria for more than 3 days, must declare their presence to the police. To do this declaration, you will have to go to the nearest police department with your passport and 5 Meldezettel completed (these forms can be obtained from a kiosk) this declaration is obligatory.
