 AUSTRIA

Finding accomodation

To find a room in a university residence write to the ÖAD:

Österreichischer Akademischer Austauschdienst
Alserstra e 4/1/1/3
A-1090 Wien
tel: 9+43-1) 4277 28151
fax (+43-1) 4277 28150

Send the reservation form for a place in a student residence hall to the ÖAD as soon as possible, in any case no later than 6 weeks before your arrival to Austria.

For international students, a place in university residence is the best place to meet other students. In general, but there can be exceptions, the bedrooms are relatively big, and are in small apartments with one or two double bedrooms or 2 or 3 single bedrooms with a kitchen, living room and one or two shared bathrooms.

The monthly rent (electricity and heating included, but not the telephone) is around 1,500 to 3,000 ATS (US $90 to 180) depending on the city and 2,600 to 3,600 ATS (US $156 to 216) per month for a single bedroom.

You can also share a private apartment with other people, which can come to around 2800 to 3,500 ATS (US $168 to 210) per month (in Vienna to rent an apartment of 50 m2 is at least 4,500 ATS (US $270) per month).
