Admissions requirements
Foreign students can be registered as " Exchange students "
(exchanges with agreements between universities), " Special
Students " or " Extension Students ".
It is generally advised that foreign students take Portuguese
language courses. The student visa is not required for " Extension
Students ".
An example : Universidade Catolica do Rio (private) :
To apply as a " Special student ", this means
no exchange agreement with a Brazilian university, the CCII, www.puc-rio.br/depto/ccii/form_inter.html,
must be contacted and the following documents must be sent :
a registration form, a certificate stating that the student is
already registered with a university overseas, a photocopy of
the passport, 2 letters of recommendation ; the CCII will
then send the student a letter of acceptance in which the student
can then be able to apply for a visa. For registration the student
must present themselves personally one week before the courses
start with a copy of the letter of acceptance that was sent by
the CCII, the passport with the student visa and payment for a
registration fee of US$100.
As for an " Extension Student " (all people
not registered at a university or college - and a
minimum age of 18) one can also register for Portuguese language
courses and university courses.
The certificate proving the Portuguese language proficiency is
called the CELPEBRAS.
