Visa requirements

To get a visa, the student must show these two documents (letter of acceptance and JW202 form) at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate. Students that are participating in a program that lasts longer than 6 months must get a visa of category x or category f. Students that are participating in a program of less than 6 months will need a visa of category x. Getting a visa A visa is obligatory for all foreigners who want to enter China, whichever nationality or origin (people that are of Chinese origin but are of another nationality must follow the same formalities as all foreigners). Student visa called the X visa

To get this visa you must go to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate and get the necessary visa form. After having completed this form return to the Embassy with it accompanied with the following documents: a valid passport (which has a validation of at least 6 months after the date of arrival into China), a recent identity photograph and the JW 201 or 202 form that the Chinese university has sent you after having accepted you. You must apply for a visa at least 30 days before your arrival date into China. A minimum of 5 working days is needed to issue a visa. Visas are valid for 3 months.

Visa fees:

  • Simple entry, valid for 3 months: US $30
  • Two entries, valid for 3 months: US $45
  • Multiple entry, valid for 6 months: US $60
  • Multiple entry, valid for 12 months: US $90

Visa fees are paid for in cash at the embassy or consulate. Note: Persons suffering from mental illnesses, AIDS, venereal diseases, tuberculoses or other contagious illnesses are not allowed to enter China. You must complete a declaration of health that provides all information related to your health. After having arrived into China, the formalities are not finished. A declaration of residency must be made within 30 days after your arrival, at the department of public security in your residential area. It is forbidden to work in China without authorization.
