Cost of living

For most foreigners, the cost of living in Colombia will seem relatively low. For Colombians, it is a different story, since the minimum wage is only 286.000 pesos ($126/€135).
Foreign students can live in Bogota on a budget of roughly $400 per month.

The following lists prices for Medellìn, the second largest city in Colombia: (prices as of March 2001)
Room rent (weekly): 95-100,000 pesos ($44/€48)
Bus ticket: 650 pesos ($.28/€.30) single ticket.
Metro ticket: 900 pesos ($.40/€.43)
A cab ride can cost 1700 pesos ($.75/€.80)
Gasoline: 3,000 pesos ($1.32/€1.42)
Hamburger: 4,000 pesos ($1.76) -8.000 pesos ($3.50/€3.80)
Coke (2 liters): 2,000 pesos ($.88/€.94)
Café: 800 pesos ($.35/€.38)
Newspaper: 1,000 pesos ($.44/€.47)
Movies: 4,500 ($2/€2.13)- 9,000 pesos. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the cheapest days to go to the movies since tickets are 50% off.
Nightclub: 10,000 - 20,000 pesos ($4-9)
Jeans: 40,000-200,000 pesos. ($18-88/€19-95)
