 COLOMBIE

Travel information

Although Colombia is passing through some difficult times, the cities are largely safe. The main thing is to be well informed when traveling in the countryside and not to draw attention to yourself.
The best transportation between cities is by air, and plane fares are not expensive. Some sample fares are Bogota-Cartagena or Bogota-Santa Marta ($150), Bogota-Medellín or Bogotá-Cali ($110). There are several airlines with fair prices, such as ACES, SAM, Avianca and Aereorepùblica.
Colombia is a beautiful country with plenty of exotic landscapes. It has 33 natural parks and some stunning natural wonders, such as the highest mountain situated by the sea (the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta at 5,775 m), the Amazon river, the wettest place in the world (Chocò). It also has some places that have been declared Mankind Heritages like Cartagena and San Agustìn. The tourist can also find lovely colonial villages such as Villa de Leyva, Popayàn and Mompox as well as modern cities like Bogota, Cali and Medellìn.
If you decide to study or work in Colombia, be ready to submerge yourself in a Latin culture, a country of contrasts, an undeveloped country in certain senses, but in the forefront in other respects; its people offer adventure, but also reflection and engagement in life and humanity.
