Finding accomodation

CROUS and their international relations services is the first organization you should visit. They offer choices of housing available in their file. Contact CROUS at your university and they will offer campus residences (very modest standards) if available, dormitories and hostels (private room and common lounge, kitchen and toilets), room rentals and apartments (social accommodation at reduced cost, HLM), or private apartments. CROUS will offer housing that is affordable as compared to prices in the market; but you need to spend a lot of time filling out forms.
The services of CROUS are regionally independent and its service charges are not the same throughout France. In Paris, it is extremely difficult to find an apartment of your choice with CROUS, and it is much easier and faster to go to real estate agencies.
University/campus residences : 810FF (US$109.35)/month in Paris; extremely difficult to obtain on social criteria; and 720FF (US$97.2)/per month outside Paris.
Studio apartment : 1550FF (US$209.25)/month outside Paris
Private housing (studio) : 3500FF (US$472.5)/month in Paris; 2500FF (US$337.5)/month outside Paris. Charges are additional (electricity, water, local taxes).
