Finding a job

You will receive very little aid from universities in finding a job or an internship. You could check the notice boards and may find a few announcements. Specialized schools, however, (engineering, Administration, Journalism, etc.) are very focused and have partnerships with recruiters. Business schools propose job offers and internships throughout the year, and often hold recruitment fairs where companies are invited to the campus and recruitment is done on campus.
The French law is very strict on foreign students finding a job. Students can work part time for 20hours a week (for students outside the European Union). To be allowed to work, you need to have an authorization from the Ministry of employment that is given on presentation of a signed work contract by future employer. The authorization can take months to be delivered. Take note that the French government does all it can to make it difficult for foreigners to work in France. The governments point of view is that it will do all it can to reduce unemployment in France (priority for France) and hence the law tries to stop foreigners from working in France. Many foreigners work illegally but this is dangerous and can result in cancellation of stay permit. It is easy to find jobs like baby sitting, house keeping etc.
An internship does not require any special authorization from the ministry of employment: This contract is done by the school and the employer. At this level it is easy to find an administrative post, but the payment for internships is quite low. Generally the payment for an internship is 1800FF(US$243) per month. Frequently internships are unpaid, so if you’re offered an internship, find out about the payment you’ll be receiving.
The center of information for youth (Center d’information et de documentation jeunesse CIDJ) lists a number of job offers and internships for students in all major cities of France.
The student health insurance and Centers régionaux des oeuvres Universitaires et scolaires (CROUS) often list classifieds which have job offers for students. To find out information about the job offers, it is necessary to visit their offices.
