 GERMANY

Programs designed for foreigners

Contacts and information:
To start your research for your future plans to study in Germany, you can find useful information on the website called Deutsches Studentenwerk http://www.studentenwerke.de/ and on the website of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Office for University Exchanges) http://www.daad.de/

Programs:
All the universities and Fachhochschulen maintain and extend their exchanges with schools of equal standards. The courses offered are designed especially for the interests of foreign students so that they can easily be integrated into the German education system. The international universities teach courses that are particularly good (International Degree Courses). These courses are also taught at a number of German institutions. They are usually attended by foreign students and German students on a 50-50 basis. They are mainly taught in English, although the students must have a particularly good level of the German language in order to complete their mandatory courses. (Students may have the possibility of learning German at the Goethe Institute in their country of origin (http://www.goethe.de/).
In addition, the diplomas awarded from the German education system are recognized internationally, because their system is derived from the anglo-saxon university system. This encourages foreign students to pass their end of the year exams in Germany. The new education system under german law allows higher education institutions to grant students bachelor and master degrees.
The national subventions help finance new programs of studies in 26 universities and 16 Fachhochschulen in the format of a pilot program called International Study programs, that are within the framework of the program Master Plus. These programs are aimed to improve studying conditions and strengthen subject specializations and adds an international quality to German and foreign students. These programs offer courses in engineering, computer sciences and mathematics, natural sciences and environmental studies, agronomics and forestry but also economics and social sciences or even courses in German language and culture. For more detailed information contact the German Office of University Exchanges (DAAD) who is responsible for the pilot program, at the following address:
