 GERMANY

Finding Shcolarships

First try and get a scholarship or grant in your country; this is the most common way. To apply for one in your country contact the necessary authorities.
German institutes do not offer scholarships directly, but the AAA can tell you how to contact the DAAD (German office of university exchanges) or the European Union, to benefit from a scholarship. BE CAREFUL! WHEN YOU GO TO APPLY FOR YOUR RESIDENCE PERMIT, THEY WILL ASK YOU TO PROVE THAT YOU HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES TO LIVE IN GERMANY AND THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND A SALARY IN GERMANY.
Only students that have already started their studies can apply for a scholarship by the DAAD. These scholarships are awarded by academic excellence. For advanced students or researchers, scholarships can be up to 1,700 DM a month (US$780). The DAAD will not cover all the study costs.
The office of the DAAD in Bonn (Kennedyalle 50, D-53175 Bonn Tel.: +49 (0)228 882-293 or-0) will inform you of the procedures (time and requirements). You can also look at the DAAD website http://www.daad.de
Scholarships are sponsored by international organizations and non-governmental organizations. A list of scholarships that are awarded can be found in a document published by UNESCO.
For European students, a modest scholarship can be granted by the Erasmus program.
