The
number of openings in each school generally includes a quota
(1 place out of 5) reserved for foreign students.
Foreigners are exempt from the entrance exam, but are evaluated
by grades earned during the last two or three years of secondary
education.
To enter a Greek university at any level except the first
year, it is necessary to have your diploma officially recognized.
Application material for admission to a Greek university:
Foreigners must submit the required documents to the Ministry
of National Education, Department of Entrance Exams, between
August 1-10. At that time, applicants will be required to
complete the application form on an optical reader and to
specify the desired department or faculty.
These documents must be submitted by the candidate in person
or by an authorized representative of the candidate. The
candidate must provide a passport or residence permit proving
legal status in Greece. A representative would be required
to sign a declaration that the candidate is not currently
in Greece or else provide a photocopy of the passport or
residence permit of the candidate.
The following documents are required:
- Application form completed on optical reader (+ 1
photo of identification)
- High School diploma or equivalent, duly notarized
- Certificate of nationality and origin of the candidate
and the candidate's parents
- Certificate showing that the diploma held by the candidate
permits entry into a university in the country where the
diploma was issued
- Declaration of honor that the candidate does not hold
a diploma from a Greek university
All documents from foreign authorities (schools, etc.)
must:
- be notarized by a Greek diplomat in the country of origin
or by a diplomatic authority of the country of origin in
Greece and
- be translated by a Greek diplomatic authority or the Greek
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In particular, documents coming from foreign schools operating
in Greece must be confirmed for their authenticity and legality
by the Director of Secondary Education.
Documents (attestations, diplomas, etc.) from the following
countries do not have to be notarized by a Greek diplomatic
official as a result of the accords of The Hague (article
3 and 4 of the Convention of 5 October 1961): Antigua and
Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia , Australia, Austria, Bahamas,
Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam,
Croatia, Cyprus, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary,
Israel, Italy, Japan, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Lesotho,
Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malta, Marshall Islands,
Mauritius, Norway, Panama, Portugal, Russia, Saint Kitts
and Nevis, Seychelles, Slovene, Spain, Surinam, Swaziland,
Tonga, Turkey, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland, the United States of America, Mexico and Hong Kong.
In addition, by mutual accord, documents from the following
countries do not have to be notarized: Germany, Bulgaria,
Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
NOTE: Documents coming from foreign authorities which
are not authenticated according to the procedures outlined
will not be accepted.
Important Information for successful candidates:
The selection of candidates admitted to various university
departments is made by the Ministry of National Education.
The preference of department is made by the candidate at
the time of application.
The candidate is enrolled only in the particular department
chosen.
When the request is accepted by the Ministry of Education,
the student enrolls directly in the chosen university.
