Travel information

AIR TRAVEL:
Service between Athens and all major European cities is provided by Olympic Airways, the Greek national airline, and most other major carriers.
Web site: www.olympic-airways.gr

TRAIN
Train transportation is rather slow and relatively comfortable (two classes). Only part of the country is served by rail, but train companies offer a number of connections with buses.

BUS
The quality of bus service varies from region to region. In Athens, the mini-bus lines are preferable. Intra-city bus service is fairly reliable. In large cities you must buy your ticket before boarding, but in smaller towns you can often pay on the bus.

FERRIES
Some ferries are very modern and comfortable, while others are much less agreeable. Therefore it is important to get information before choosing a ferry. In principal, there is first class (a room is included but must be reserved) and tourist class. Ferries frequently post delays of one to several hours. Take this into account before your return. On the other hand, sailing is subject to weather conditions.

TAXIS
In large cities, taxis are numerous and not expensive. They often take several passengers going in the same direction, which can be slow and aggravating when you're in a hurry. Radio taxis, which are more expensive, are entirely at your disposition.
