 HONG KONG

Organization

There are three main types of schools — government schools, which are wholly operated by the government; aided schools which are fully aided by the government but are run by voluntary bodies; and private schools. There are 10 tertiary institutions, eight of which are funded through the University Grants Commission. Seven of the eight are Universities and the other one is the Hong Kong institute of education which is a teacher training institute. The seven universities are :
-City University of Hong Kong
-Hong Kong Baptist University
-Lingnan University
-The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
-The Chinese University of Hong Kong
-The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
-The University of Hong Kong

Education System :
The education system in Hong Kong provides for 13 years of schooling — 6 years at primary school, 5 years in secondary school and 2 years of matriculation. In addition to these 13 years of education, the undergraduate programs follow a British pattern of 3 years duration for a Bachelor’s degree.

Academic Calendar :
Post graduate curricula normally commence in September and applications for admission are invited from January onwards in the year admission is sought.
