All major brands of travelers cheques are accepted in India. Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore and other big cities have ATM’s. Credit cards are accepted in major tourist centers, but do not expect to use a credit card everywhere.
General living expenses for a student per year is approximately US$1200 — US$1800. This includes personal expenses, lodging in students hostels and all other incidental costs.
