Local information
The
Israeli society is a melting pot of many cultures. Jews come here
from around the world; from Europe, the U.S.A, Russia, North-Africa,
Yemen, Ethiopia, and many other places. Regardless of which part
of the country you visit, you will discover an amazingly multifaceted
society. Tel-Aviv, for example, is known as the city that never
sleeps; it is the place to be for hipsters and revellers. Jerusalem,
on the other hand, is a city pregnant with history and spirituality,
which attracts many religious communities.
Judaism is the state religion, and although Israelis still take
part in the occasional religious ceremonies, it is said that Israel
is turning into an " americanized " society
with regards to its life style, consumer behaviour, and working
habits.
Warning : The 50 years Israeli-Arab
conflict makes this region an unstable and fragile spot. The Palestinian
Occupied Territories and the northern border of Israel are the
most risky areas. Lately, an increase in bomb attacks is also
hitting the main Israeli cities. You should consult the international
news and media before going.
Weather and Seasons
The climate in Israel is moderate. Summers are hot and the
temperature may reach 40°C in the south, while winters are
cold and dry.
Distances
Because Israel is a small country, you can travel almost anywhere
by car or bus. The bus fares are cheap and they serve almost all
the cities.
