 ISRAEL

A LEGENDARY LAND

Since the dawn of man, this part of the world has continually contributed to the making of history. Conflicting issues of religion, belief systems, traditions and passions are all aspects of every day life here. A holy land for every Jew, Christian and Muslim throughout the world, Israel plays a fascinating role in the hearts and minds of many.
For history lovers and adventure seekers, Israel is the place to be. Travel through time while visiting the Holy Places of Jerusalem like the Mounts of Galilee, the citadel of Massada, the Dead Sea, or the Negev desert. Go sailing, waterskiing or swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, or relax while sunbathing on the beaches of Tel-Aviv. If you still are in need of some adventure, take a dive into the Eilat Sea.
The Jewish tradition has always placed a strong emphasis on education as a lifelong obligation. This is demonstrated by the increasing demand for higher education; the number of enrolled students reached 165,000 in 2000. The administration and management of the education system are under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, but several other ministries and organizations have an educational role as well : the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Jewish Agency, the National Parents’ Committee, and more (source : World Data on Education, www.ibe.unesco.org). This shows how important higher education is to the Israeli national identity.
