 ITALY

Local information

Italy has a latin and mediterranean culture, where the social life mainly takes place outdoors, in the squares and the main centers of the city. In the evenings everybody can be found outside taking the famous walk (passagiata). It is the occasion to be seen and to show ones best. The passagiata is a real live fashion show, there is always this obsession with beauty.
the standard setting for Italian students is to study in the heart of the city, in magnificant medieval or baroque palaces. This idyllic picture nevertheless has a more moderate side: a nightmarish administration and an excessive taste for strikes in the public services, can sometimes make life difficult for Italians as well as foreigners. There is an advantage to this inconvenience: do not panic if you have missed the deadline for your application, in Italy, being late is still being on time!
