Qualifications awarded by Italian universities:
DIPLOME DE LAUREA (DL)
The study program of the "Laurea" is taught at the university
and takes between 4 and 6 years. The aim is to supply the student
with knowledge using teaching methods that maintain culture and
scientific and professional work at a very high level.
UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA (DU)
The study program of the "university diploma" is taught
at the university and takes between 2 and 3 years to complete.
The departments recognize, completely or partially, the
studies followed within the structure of the courses for
the University Diploma for those who intend to take courses
for the Laurea or similar University Diploma.
SCOLE DIRETTE A FINI SPECIALI (SDAFS)
The course of study of the SDAFS, that are "specialized
schools," can vary between 2 and 3 years. The aim is to
give students a cultural and professional university level
of education in which the students learn to become specialized
technicians in defined sectors. The study program for
a SDAFS is progessively transforming into a new "University
Diplomas."
DIPLOMA DI SPECIALIZZAZIONE (DS)
The "diploma di specializzazione" is carried out after a
university diploma, or a two years or more study program
in one of the specialized schools. It aims to prepare future
specialists in designated (specified) professional fields.
DITTORATO DI RICERCA (DR)
The doctorate is carried out after a degree or master, and
consists of a program of study and personal research for
a minimum of 3 years. The title of Doctor has an exclusively
academic value in the field of scientific research.
