The profile of higher studies and the designation of diplomas vary according to the educational system followed by the institution.

French and Lebanese Systems
The 1er et 2ème cycles universitaires correspond to the Undergraduate studies and lead, after 2 to 5 years’ study, to a DEUG, Licence or a Maîtrise, or after 4 to 8 years to a professional qualification Diplôme.
DEUG : degree awarded after 2 to 3 years in social sciences, law, political sciences
Licence : after 3 or 4 years in arts, social sciences, law, economics, political sciences, business administration
Maîtrise : after 4 or 5 years in management, social sciences, paramedical sciences, law, political sciences
Diplôme : after 4 years in fine arts, 5 to 6 years in engineering, dentistry, pharmacy, agriculture, 6 to 8 years in architecture, medicine

The 3ème cycle universitaire correspond to the Graduate studies and lead, after 5 to 9 years to a Magistère, DES, DEA, Doctorat
Magistère : after 5 years and a presentation of a dissertation in arts and humanities
DES (Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures) : after 5 or 6 years in fine arts, law, political sciences, economics
DEA (Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies)  :after 5 or 6 years in education, paramedical sciences
Doctorat : after 7 to 9 years in arts and humanities, theology, education, literature, philosophy, political sciences, law, economics.

The Anglo-Saxon System
Undergraduate Studies
It leads after 4 to 6 years’ study to a Bachelor’s Degree :
Bachelor of Arts (BA) : after 4 years in arts and humanities
Bachelor of Science (BS): after 4 to 5 years in public health, agriculture, nursing
Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) : after 4 years in business
Bachelor of Engineering (BE) : after 5 years in engineering

Graduate Studies
It leads after 5 to 9 years to a Master’s Degree or a Doctorate (PhD)
Master in Business Administration (MBA: after 5 years in business
Master of Engineering (ME: after 6 years in engineering
Doctorate or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) : corresponds to a period of individual research and submission and defence of a thesis.
