Visa information

Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Switzerland or Monaco do not require visas.
All others must obtain from an embassy of the Netherlands a visa VKV (Visum Kort Verblif’) if the stay will not exceed three months, or a visa MVV (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblif’) for stays exceeding three months.
Upon arrival in the Netherlands, you must register with the office of foreigners (Vreemdelingenpolitie) within three days.
All foreigners residing more than three months must obtain a residency permit: Vergunning Tot Verblif’ (VTV) (including members of the European Union).
Cost: 125 NLG (€56.72/US$50.48).

Work permit :

Unless you are from the USA or EEA, the possibilities to work are limited. All students from outside the EU or EEA need a VKV or residence permit plus a work permit (called "Tewerkstellingsvergunning" or TWV) in order to do an intership or a work placement in the Netherlands. They are then alloweg to work for a maximum ot ten hiurs a week between September and May or full-time during the months of June, July, and August.

Your employer in the Netherlands must apply for your work permit at least five weeks prior to your intership or work placement.
