 NORWAY

Finding accomodation

The "studentsamskipnader" of each university is in charge of the university residences by way of the student accommodation Division (if you ask, the international student office will supply you with the address for your initial contact). You can put forward a request to the Division for a room in the residence before June 25 for the fall semester and November 25 for the spring semester. You will receive your accommodation contract when you arrive at the university.

In the case of the University of Oslo, you will pay a deposit of 2,500 NKR (US $250) before your arrival to benefit for accommodation. Then the rent is on average 2,500 NKR (US $250) per month.

In the majority of cases, you share a small building or house with four or eight other students, each person has their own furnished bedroom and there is a communal kitchen, bathroom and toilets. The residences are equipped with laundromates, saunas, solarium, party room, and a student pub. In general, foreign students are grouped together in a residence. The residences are situated either in a city or a little towards the outskirts (these are called "student villages").

It would very unwise to ignore this offer: it is less expensive and nicer than to live in a private apartment. However if this is your preferred choice, the accommodation Division will advise you.
