 SINGAPORE

Finding a job

Foreign students who are full time undergraduates of polytechnics and universities, for at least 1 semester and who are not scholarship holders, are allowed to work part-time during school term. The maximum period of employment should not exceed 16 hours per week. However they need to obtain permission from the student liaison/affairs office. Each university/polytechnics has appointed/gazette 2-3 staff to perform this function. During vacations, foreign students are allowed to work full-time and are exempted to apply work permits.
Singapore welcomes the skilled and the talented, and offers a variety of employment options — especially in fields of information technology, financial services, manufacturing, engineering, health care, telecommunications and creative industries. Singapore has an open-migration policy and fast processing of employment passes.
To work in Singapore, prospective employees need a employment pass or work permit. Registration may be necessary with regulatory bodies. The Singapore career guide is an annual career handbook which aims at providing up-to-date information about the employment opportunities in the market.
