Admission requirements
Overseas students with a good knowledge of English
may apply directly for regular degree studies at the universities
(the same way as South African students). They must, however,
hold the Matriculation Certificate or an equivalent qualification
(High School or Secondary School Leaving Certificate) obtained
at the end of 12 years of formal education. They also must meet
the other admission requirements specific to each institution
and each degree.
Equivalence
The evaluation procedure varies according to the studies level :
Undergraduate studies
For first degree study, the universities require a Certificate
of Exemption on the grounds of a foreign qualification. Applications

Graduate Studies
The evaluation of educational qualifications falls under the
responsibility of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA),
whether it is for graduate level study or employment purposes.

Languages
South Africa has an overwhelming number of official languages,
but English is widely spoken and most institutions require, as
a prerequisite, a certification proving proficiency in English.
All international students will be obliged to submit a TOEFL score
of at least 550 to the university before registration. The arrangements
must be made directly by the student by contacting :
