Degrees/Diplomas

After having attending the obligatory secondary cycle, students can attend a professional training program called Formacion de Grado Medio. Once completed, the student will receive a Technician Degree (61 choices). This degree enables students to start working. Another option is to attend a superior training program called Formacion de Grado Superior which awards a student a Superior Technician Degree (75 choices). This degree is a higher level in comparison with the Technical Degree because the student is specialized in a field of work and it qualifies them to attend the first cycle of university. The superior training program can only be attended by those who have taken a qualifying exam.
At the end of the secondary cycle, students can also have the option of attending High School and to receive a bachillerato. Once a student has earned a bachillerato they are then qualified to enroll in university.
University studies are divided in three cycles. At the end of each cycle the students are awarded a level of qualification that allows them to start working professionally. There are a number of different degrees and diplomas awarded by the university at each level of study. For example, once you have completed the first cycle you can receive a Diplomado degree, a Technician in Architecture or a Technician in Engineering. After the second cycle a Licentiate Degree, Architect or Engineering Degree can be awarded. And finally the third cycle awards the Doctorate degree. A Doctorate is awarded once a student has perfomed extensive research in a specialized area of study.
Diplomas granted by both public and private universities, are acknowledged by the Spanish government and are recognized worldwide.
