Teaching methods

Courses:
Universities as well as Technical schools offer courses in a number of areas, and in the so-called Professional Families there is a wide variety of choices in the 22 areas of study that they offer. Courses are generally quite theoretical (even in scientific and commercial areas). There is roughly 20 hours of class time per week.
During the school year some universities offer internship possibilities with companies.

Admission requirements :
Students who have received the Bachillerato-LOGSE, the C.O.U. or the Bachillerato Experimental can register at any university providing there are no limitation access. Students must also pass an entrance exam that is organized independently by universities and technical schools. These entrance exams are called Pruebas de Acceso, and are held in June and September.
Some universities have limited space for new students, and in these cases they will have other admission requirements. It is not uncommon for universities to have a restricted amount of space. This is a result of a 40% increase, over the last two decades, in the number of students who apply to university. For example, there are around 130,000 students enrolled at the Complutense University of Madrid.
