Programs
designed for foreigners
The courses in Spanish universities are open
to foreigners as long as they fulfill ALL the requirements for
admission. Foreigners can apply to any of the first, second and
third level cycles and receive the same diplomas and degrees as
Spaniards. Do not forget that the number of available places in
Spanish universities is limited, although some universities do
have more places designated for students who come to Spain just
to take part in a specific course. In such cases the credits earned
by these specific courses are recognized but are not enough to
award any degree. If the student attends these specific courses,
the student will pay three times more per credit than if they
attended an ordinary university program (this policy might change
from one university to another, consult the chosen university
to see its conditions).
Exchange programs:
Many of the Spanish universities offer different types of exchange
programs, such as the SOCRATES, the ERASMUS, the Rafael and the
Leonardo Da Vinci program. These programs are available within
the European Union. Similar bilateral and multilateral agreements
with Latin American countries, the United States, Canada, and
the Middle East do exist. For example one popular Latin American
program that has an agreement with most Spanish universities,
is the Convenio Andrés Bello. Most universities have an
international relations office where the necessary information
about exchange programs with Spain is available.
Contacts and information:
Spanish embassies and consulates, Cervantes Institutes, UNESCO
offices, the ISO (Spanish-American States Organization), the OECD,
the Andrés Bello Agreement offices in South America, the
Universia web site (http://www.universia.cl)),
and the web site of the Spanish Education and Culture Ministry
(http://www.mec.es),
are all good places to look for information and research studying
opportunities in Spain.
