 SWEDEN

Organization

Swedish higher education is internationally recognized.
Training programs are offered by two types of institutions: Universities and other establishments of higher education.
There exist about 50 higher education establishments, most of them are managed by the State, some are managed by the provinces and few by the private sector.
The government establishes objectives and directives for universities and other higher education establishments and delegate decisions concerning the contents of the teaching to the establishments.
Higher education is divided between basic education (at least 3 years of studies) and third cycle education. The basic education can be either general or professional.

Accreditations
Swedish higher education is accredited by the government.
The acceptance conditions vary and depend on the diploma and the university chosen.
The secondary education diploma is all that is needed to continue studies at the higher education, however certain subjects are more selective: architecture, medicine, odontology and economics.

University calendar
2 semesters: mid-August to mid-January
mid-January to beginning of June.
