Degrees/Diplomas
The awarding of diplomas is accounted for by a credit system.
One credit represents one course consisting of 1 to 3 hours of
classes per week for one semester. Depending on the subjects and
level, to pass a semester one must have around 16 credits.
The open universities allow you to take correspondence courses
(via internet, ...).
The organization of the courses and diplomas is an Anglo-Saxon
type:
Bachelors Degree
This diploma is generally awarded after four years of studies
(128 credits). Some exceptions: seven years for medicine, six
years for dentistry and five years for law, architecture, veterinary,
etc... The open universities award this diploma after seven or
eight years of studies.
Masters Degree
These specializations require two years following a Bachelors
degree. It consists of classes (around 24 credits) and a final
thesis.
Doctorate Degree
This highest level of university study is awarded after a minimum
of two years of personal research and a written thesis. Classes
are given for an average equivalency of 16 credits.
The acceptance conditions vary in relation to the diploma
and the university chosen. Admission into the first cycle
is based on the passing of the university and college entrance
exam.
