Admissions requirements
Qualifications & Equivalence
The application procedure varies according to the degree program :
Full-time Undergraduate Applications
Foreign students must hold an equivalent qualification to
the "Lise diplomasi ", the Turkish secondary-school-leaving
certificate. The equivalence application must be submitted to
the nearest Turkish Embassy.
They then must pass a central university entrance examination
specially designed and organized for foreign students.
Access to higher education is centralized and based on a nation-wide
examination called the "Ogrenci Seçme Sinavi"
administered by the ÖSYM every year to select candidates
for higher education among the high school graduates.
Foreign students must take the examination in English for selection
and placement of international students called YÖS.
Applicants should request the Application Form and the ÖSYM-
YÖS Guide by writing to :
Ogrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi, ÖSYM- YÖS,
06538 Ankara, Turkey.
The application form together with the examination fee (100 US$)
must reach ÖSYM by May 15. The examination is usually held
in June, at many centers in Turkey, Central Asia, Eastern Europe
and the Middle East. For more information contact the Education
Counselor in the nearest Turkish Embassy.
Transfer and Graduate Applications
Foreign students who have completed at least one full year
at an accredited university or who apply for graduate programs
may apply directly to the Admission Office of the university they
want to attend in Turkey.
Languages
Foreign students must take a Turkish proficiency test prior
to their admission in Turkish institutions. The candidates who
fail to pass the test are required to follow a one-year preparatory
program offered by all universities and designed specifically
for overseas students.
For English or German programs, a proficiency test in these languages
is also required.
