 UNITED KINGDOM

Finding a job

As mentioned earlier, life in the UK is very expensive. Many students have no other choice but to work to pay for their studies. Small jobs, like bartending and waitressing are easily accessible on a part time basis, but do not expect to make a fortune: a small job will earn you about £3-4 per hour! Do not forget that the law prohibits foreign students from working more than 20 hours per week, so working possibilities are limited for part-time or seasonal work.
When looking for a job, first check with the Student Employment Center or Career Center at the university and on the bulletin boards in the Student Union.
Getting an internship in the UK is even more difficult. The options are more limited and the demand is great and internships are usually not paid. However if you are interested, regardless of the limited opportunities, visit the London Recruitment Fair which is organized every year in July.
Young graduates and seniors usually participate in a traineeship for a year. This consists of working in a firm for at least six months.
